Hillcrest Stables Equine Rehabilitation

Hidden in the Teign Valley in Devon, Hillcrest Stables is a place where your pony can find sanctuary and the perfect place to restore and reset on a rehabilitation stay with us.

Hillcrest Stables is set up as a specialist facility for native ponies or those with metabolic challenges. It comprises of a communal barn, large yard 'loafing area', and a track system which surrounds three paddocks. With equine social behaviour at the heart of the rehabilitation, the aim is for your pony to be carefully integrated into the existing herd where possible.

At Hillcrest stables we believe that the best results are reached through working in partnership with nature. As such, caring for the environment is at the heart of our ethos here. We are creating a small copse, a wild orchard, and we are encouraging vast biodiversity on the land. The hedges are encouraged and maintained, and the ponies are able to self select from these abundant hedges too.

Herbal self selection

We have a close relationship with EcoGreen Equestrian, who kindly supply an array of loose herbs that your equine is able to self select during their stay. We also utilise the herbs growing in the surrounding area. Maisie has studied an had a keen interest in self selection for over 10 years. While there is always more to learn about this fascinating subject, you can know that your equine is safe in Maisie's hands.

Weighing scales

We believe that taking accurate weights is highly undervalued! We have an equine weighing scales because of this, and will keep a record of your equine's weights during their stay

Veterinary physiotherapy

As a qualified IAAT Veterinary Physiotherapist, Maisie will formulate a bespoke rehabilation plan for your equine. You can expect your horse/pony to have use of Maisie's physiotherapy machines, massage therapy, and partake in rehabilation exercises and stretches, dependant upon the reason for their stay.

Behavioural training

Maisie has been a practicing behaviourist and trainer since 2015. She is experienced in cases from day to day training solutions, right through to complex behavioural cases. During your equine's stay it is very highly recommended that you also have training with Maisie and your horse/pony.

Salt therapy

Salt therapy has been proven to be highly effective in helping respiratory conditions and skin conditions due to its anti-inflammatory and de-congestant effects.

Our treatment room contains a salt therapy machine, which your equine will have use of should they need this.
